5 weeks and growing strong

Wow, it’s been a while since we’ve gotten a post up. Sorry about that! Things around here have been busy as you can imagine. The action is pretty much non-stop. We’ve been lucky this week to have help for a good part of the week. Jen’s dad and stepmom came to stay from Wednesday to Friday, which was a huge help. Today and tomorrow we’ve got friends coming out to visit too so the weekend will be easier too.

Thursday the kids had their 1 month checkup with their doctor. All went well and they’re growing like weeds. Alex is now 21 1/2″ long and weighs almost 10 lbs (9lbs 14.5 oz). Avery is 20 3/4″ long and weighs in at 8lbs 11 oz). Both are just about in the 50th percentile for their height and weight (avery is slightly under with her weight).

All of our questions were answered and as far as the doc can tell everything looks good. They both each got a shot to end the visit which they quickly recovered from, I was impressed.

Both kids are now checking out what’s going on around them and way more alert with every week that goes by. They actually quite often seem to be so into being awake and taking it all in that sometimes it’s hard to get them to sleep. Jen has had great luck with daytime naps the past few days that has really helped with putting them down later. Hopefully we can keep that up and keep them on a routine.

We’ve taken and posted up new pictures online. We have plenty more that haven’t made it up yet that we will be adding as soon as I have time. Keep checking back because I promise it won’t be so long between posts.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Time flies when you’re having fun changing diapers, holding babies, washing bottles, and trying deperately to find time to sleep! Alex and Avery are 3 and a half weeks old already – I cannot believe it. I was looking back at pictures from when they were born and already they have changed so much. Alex is growing like a weed – he looks bigger every day I think. Avery is still a little peanut, but she must also be growing. She’s eating pretty much every two hours during the day, and all that milk must be doing some good.

The babies definitely have their own little personalities. Both sleep pretty well at night – they wake up between every three and four hours, but just to eat and they go right back to sleep. I pray that will continue. It lets me get two good two to three hour blocks of sleep at night, which is nothing compared to the 10 I was sleeping before they came, but it’s better than the 0 I was getting right after they were born! During the day, Avery likes to sleep most of the morning and afternoon and then she’s awake more in the early evening. She’s pretty laid back and quiet unless something is wrong – usually if she cries, she’s hungry. Alex is so alert and loves to gaze into your eyes. He’s awake more than she is, and has a harder time getting to sleep. He loves to be held and can be pretty demanding about it. You’ll think he’s knocked out and go to put him in the swing or bouncy seat, and 30 seconds later he’s screaming because you put him down! He’s really strong, too, and holds his head up all the time.

Life is still pretty crazy around here, but Don and I are adjusting. I feel bad sometimes that the pets aren’t getting as much attention as they used to, but hopefully as the babies grow we’ll be able to get more of a schedule and find time to take the dogs walking with us, or play frisbee in the evenings again. It’s definitely easier when we have an extra set of hands around to hold one of the babies so I can shower or Don can cut the grass, etc. If you’re reading this and thinking you’d like to visit, just call or email! We’d love for you to come!
