We finally had to start putting the babies to bed in their own cribs. At first, Alex was the squirmy one who seemed to be waking not only himself up, but also Avery at times when he would accidentally ( I hope) kick her. Noise and screaming don’t seem to be an issue if the other one is truly asleep. I was hoping they could share longer – they looked so cute together, but it just wasn’t an option anymore.
So at 3 months old, Avery made the big move a few nights ago, across the carpet to her own crib. Things were going alright until last night, when Don went in and found her perpendicular at the top of her crib, face first in the bumper. So we tried a sleep positioner, but she wiggled out of it and did the same thing again. Today I took all the bumpers out of her bed, so it’s just the wooden slats all around. Hopefully she won’t bang her head or get her arms stuck, but either of those are better than her suffocating. I tried her in a bigger sleep positioner tonight, but when I just went up there, she had wiggled out of it too, the little Houdini. Her head was over by the slats in the back, and her binky was pretty close to falling out. That will be quite the nightmare when that happens, I’m sure. Her crib’s not as cute anymore, but it is safer for her. And she’s also almost done being swaddled – she’s working on night number 2 of having both arms out and just her torso tightly wrapped.
Alex still has one arm in and doesn’t seem ready for the other yet. It’s cute, though, he’s “found” his left hand and sucks on his fist after the pacifier falls out. Then about 3 seconds later, he cries for the pacie. That part’s not so cute. I wonder sometimes if he’ll end up lefthanded since his right hand is wrapped up so often.
So now they have their own cribs. Next step, sleeping in them for longer than 4 hours at time without needing to eat…
