Once a week commitment

@6:56 am in Family No Comments »

Wow, it’s scary how much time has passed.  It’s hard to believe Adam is almost 4 months old!

I feel horrible that we’ve been slacking on new posts and haven’t been as quick to put new pictures and videos online.  It’s hard to find the time but I’m going to make a commitment to get a post up here at least once a week.  Even if it’s a few sentences, you’re going to hear something new from the Kitchen camp.

This weekend will be interesting.  We’re planning a trip down to North Carolina with my dad, my sisters and a few of their friends.  They invited us to come down because they had some extra space in the house they rented for the week.  I’m super excited as I haven’t been down to NC since I was a kid.  While I’m sure it’s changed a bunch since I’ve been there, my memories are fond and I remember nice beaches without hoards of people.

The drive down won’t be too bad as we’re going to stop at my dad’s in Virginia on Friday night.  After staying there Friday we’ll convoy down to NC.  Stopping at my dad’s will pretty much cut the trip in half with about 3 hours each leg.  So far, 3 hours is about the maximum the kids have been in the car so that’s not going to be anything new.  We’ll head back Tuesday night and will be driving straight through.  That will be about 6 hours, which I am not looking forward to.

I’m sure we’ll have good stories and pictures to share next week when we’re back.  Wish us luck and have a good weekend!

All Children Survive Their Siblings, Right?

I was out tutoring last Thursday (the 17th,) and Don was handling bedtime for all 3 kids. At one point, he left Adam in the aquarium bouncy seat in his room, and the twins were in with him, while Don went to refill Avery’s cup of water. He was heading back to the room when he heard Adam suddenly crying. Those two little beasts had managed to FLIP the baby UPSIDE DOWN in the bouncy seat. Like, nose on the carpet, suspended from the t-strap, wire base up in the air, upside down. Don didn’t even ask for an explanation, he just grabbed Adam and tried to comfort him since he said the poor guy looked so terrified and was so upset. And he said the twins looked like they knew they had messed up bigtime, so he just told them they’d been very bad and put them to bed. I asked today, and of course they both could tell me all about it, but when I asked who flipped it, Alex said “Easy” and she said “Awix.” Those turkeys know how to work that twins thing, that’s for sure. Adam seems no worse for the wear, though I kept him out of that bouncer today so as not to give him some PTSD episode. Things like this are why God made him so big, I think. He’s gonna have to be able to fight back very, very soon!

Poopy Days

@9:34 pm in Adam, Alex, Avery, Kids No Comments »

Literally. Monday was just plain gross.

Adam pooped in his jumper while the twins ate lunch. Down his leg, to the floor, so he was dancing in it. Yuck.

Alex pooped in his underwear when he woke up from his nap, before I went in to get him. I stopped doing pull-ups at naptime because they were always dry. Double yuck.

And Avery had her normal naptime one too. She waited until yesterday, the one day I’ve ever let her sleep in her tutu, to have her first gross leaky diaper in probably a year. She got her sheets, the mattress pad, her skirt, and, of course, the damn tutu. Triple yuck.

And for good measure, Alex the potty trained wonder, who finally tells us when he has to pee or poop, pooped in his underwear after dinner tonight. Quadruple yuck.

I think we need to cut back on the fruit in this house or something.

I am so.done.with.poop!

Things overheard recently in our household:

1. “Time out, Mommy!” Alex put me in time out because he was ready to clean up the crayons and I didn’t listen and insisted on finishing my picture. So I got a time out. He also put a little Mickey Mouse toy in time out earlier this week for something similar with the Play-Doh accessories. Gives you some insight as to what’s been going on in his life lately…

2. “Ssssssssssss!” Alex came running out of the bathroom hissing the other day and wanted me to come see. Why? Because he pooped and thought it looked like a snake. He’s SUCH a boy. (And I am sure he’ll someday hate me for sharing this story!)

3. “Are you serious???” Don’s reaction when I asked him to come back upstairs because Alex had climbed out of his crib. It was a Wednesday, and Alex was having a very hard time settling down and getting to sleep. So Don went back in the twins’ room, to no avail, and left him in there to figure it out. I was in Adam’s room, feeding him in the rocking chair. Suddenly it got quiet, I heard their door open and close, and nothing. I thought maybe Don had gone back in to give him Motrin, but that didn’t seem likely. I got up and walked over to Adam’s door, with him still latched on. There was Alex, padding down the hall, binky in his mouth, like it was the most normal thing in the world. I said, “What are you doing?!?” and he told me he was going downstairs to go night-night with Daddy. Ay-yi-yi. He’s done it once or twice since then but seems to understand now that he needs to stay in his crib, he could get a boo-boo climbing out, etc. But we still have a call in to my friend Tracey to get her crib tent to cage the wild beast should it become necessary.

4. “You’re not a doggy, Alex!” Don, Avery, and I have to say this to the boy pretty often. He likes to lick things and usually will try during at least one meal to eat with his face, like a dog. So we try to remind him he’s human and no canine. At least he’s not barking, which my cousin used to do.
