We finally had to start putting the babies to bed in their own cribs. At first, Alex was the squirmy one who seemed to be waking not only himself up, but also Avery at times when he would accidentally ( I hope) kick her. Noise and screaming don’t seem to be an issue if the other one is truly asleep. I was hoping they could share longer - they looked so cute together, but it just wasn’t an option anymore.
So at 3 months old, Avery made the big move a few nights ago, across the carpet to her own crib. Things were going alright until last night, when Don went in and found her perpendicular at the top of her crib, face first in the bumper. So we tried a sleep positioner, but she wiggled out of it and did the same thing again. Today I took all the bumpers out of her bed, so it’s just the wooden slats all around. Hopefully she won’t bang her head or get her arms stuck, but either of those are better than her suffocating. I tried her in a bigger sleep positioner tonight, but when I just went up there, she had wiggled out of it too, the little Houdini. Her head was over by the slats in the back, and her binky was pretty close to falling out. That will be quite the nightmare when that happens, I’m sure. Her crib’s not as cute anymore, but it is safer for her. And she’s also almost done being swaddled - she’s working on night number 2 of having both arms out and just her torso tightly wrapped.
Alex still has one arm in and doesn’t seem ready for the other yet. It’s cute, though, he’s “found” his left hand and sucks on his fist after the pacifier falls out. Then about 3 seconds later, he cries for the pacie. That part’s not so cute. I wonder sometimes if he’ll end up lefthanded since his right hand is wrapped up so often.
So now they have their own cribs. Next step, sleeping in them for longer than 4 hours at time without needing to eat…

You’d think being home and out of work would mean more time to do things like update the blog. Yeah, not so much, though… I feel like things are just as busy as ever, with the notable exception of getting to sleep later. That alone has made a huge difference in how I feel. I definitely am still uncomfortable, but my back isn’t screaming at the end of every day like it was a few weeks ago. It seems to depend more on how the babies are laying and if she is pushed up under my rib cage or not.
Don and I have been going to many classes - childbirth on Mondays, breastfeeding last Thursday, and a tour of the hospital this past Tuesday. We’re hoping to get to use the info about labor and breathing in a few weeks, but little boy Kitchen needs to turn upside down for that to be a possibility. As of two weeks ago, he was fully breech. I have another sonogram Wednesday to see if he’s flipped. They were super active Tuesday, so I am hopeful that all the commotion was both babies getting into position before it gets too crowded to make any changes in there. It seriously felt like one of them was going to come out through my belly button that day! My next sonogram is next Wednesday, so we’ll see then if they are in a cooperative position or not.
Here are the belly pics from weeks 30 and 31:

Don also worked really hard last weekend and then nights this week to redo the trim and paint and put up chair rail in the feeding/playroom/eventually baby boy room (formerly known as Luna’s room.) The cat seems only a little peeved to have been moved to the laundry room, and so far the remodeling looks awesome.

That’s right, we hung the last two pictures in the nursery this morning and we’re done. Yesterday we got the bedding and a few other items from Babies R Us (their twins discount rocks!) to help make the room look complete. Jen quickly attacked all the bedding when we got home and it really looks great. The wall art that we put up this morning looks great too. I really think it will be a great place for the kids to sleep, grow and learn.

You can see the nursery photo gallery to see the transformation that the room has gone through. We’re very happy with it and think the nusrery is the coolest room in the house!

Well, it’s mostly done. The only thing I have to do is put up a ceiling fan that we have for in there. Other than that, it’s done! We’ve assembled both cribs and I’ve put together one of the two dressers. It seems that they forgot to put the knobs for the dresser in the box (or we lost them) so we’ll replace the hardware on the dresser with something cool.

We still need to order the matching changing table and we’re going to try to squeeze a rocking chair into the room too. We may have to arrange the furniture a little differently, we’ll see once everything is in there. Also to come, matching curtains, some shelves, etc.

We’ve gotten a bunch of baby clothes already from various friends and family members. Grandmom Nancy got the kids a TON of baby stuff. We saw them this past weekend and ended up going home with an entire trunk full of goodies (thanks!) James and Stacey also let us borrow a ton of baby gear. Bill and Shannon also sent us home with some loaner maternity clothes for Jen and more clothes for the babies. At the rate we’re going these kids won’t need any clothes for the first year or two (wahoo!)

So far everybody has been so great and generous. It’s so exciting to see how excited everybody else is for us too. We’re very lucky to have such nice friends and a caring family. Our babies will be lucky to be around such good people.

Here’s the 21 week belly shot. Still doing good and growing every week!

I’ve been busy working on the nursery for the past 6 days straight. All of the painting and trim work is done finally! Last night we put together the two cribs. I may work on putting together the two dressers tonight. It looks really nice with the room done and the furniture in there. We’re realizing how tight things will be when while we have both cribs in the same room.
They’ll be in the same room for a while I guess. I’m not sure at what point we’ll split them into different rooms. I don’t know if you do it at a certain age, or if they start to keep each other awake, etc. I don’t really know much about this stuff at all I guess, I guess you just have to play it by ear.
I’ll get some pictures of the finished nursery up this weekend. Check back soon!
